Editing Services

Our Style

When you choose to work with us, you get more than just a sheet full of markups. We begin each manuscript by discussing with the author what we foresee are editorial needs based on a brief sample of the manuscript in question. If the author feels these remarks fit his or her vision for the story, we then move forward.

Our work contains in-depth markups, sidebar comments, and in-line corrections. The author is given the opportunity to consider our suggestions, make alterations as desired.

We also offer a variety of editing services to fit your diverse needs. These may be purchased à la carte, or in editing packages, which are generally less expensive and incorporate multiple passes.

Developmental Editing

Developmental edits analyze plot, characterization (and consistency), story structure, and overall story impression. You will receive detailed feedback, including examples from the manuscript, on the story as a whole. Little attention will be paid to grammatical errors or sentence structure as these fall into other services.

It is the author's choice whether or not to employ these suggestions. However, should you choose to do so, we will review the manuscript a second time once the revisions have been made. At this time, you may choose to employ our line editing services or select one of our editing packages, but doing so is not a requirement.

The fee structure for developmental editing is contingent on word count, and as such, varies from project to project.

Line Editing

Line editing breaks the story down into technical components and does not look at overall development or structure. It includes point of view consistency, passive writing, inconsistencies, pacing analysis, and individual style. This service also includes basic copyediting.

It is the author's choice whether or not to employ these suggestions. However, should you choose to do so, we will review the manuscript a second time once the revisions have been made. At this time, you may choose to employ our proofreading services or select one of our editing packages, but doing so is not a requirement.

Copyediting

Copyediting looks strictly at a manuscript's grammar, sentence structure, punctuation, typographical errors, tense structure, and word choice. It is a technical analysis we recommend every author employ before publication. However, if we have line edited your novel, this service may be omitted.

Once corrections are made, you may choose to employ our proofreading services.

Final Proofreading

Final proofreading assumes that the book has been through all phases of editing, including copyediting. This is a last-run, final "eyes on the book" pass that addresses only errors.

It is always the author's choice to accept suggested changes, however, as proofreading addresses errors only, it should not be considered a subjective review.
